We share the grammar of the circular transition

Tourism system · the key asset to play

01

The circular economy requires a system

The circular economy is systemic by definition. It does not advance when applied only to narrowly defined sectors or activities, but when it acts on flows, interdependencies and relationships among resources, actors, rules, environments and diverse activities that condition one another and can reorganize production and consumption in a circular way. Therefore, advancing the circular transition requires acting at the system level.

02

In the Balearic Islands, this system exists

The broad range of institutions, activities, resources, cultural assets and social dynamics that, over time, have taken shape in Balears around tourism has given rise to a broad, diverse, flexible and adaptable tourism system. Despite its fragmented configuration and still weak integration in terms of governance, this system offers significant orchestration potential in support of the circular transition.

03

The key asset to play

The strength of this system does not derive only from the weight of tourism activity, but from the fact that it integrates and interrelates many of the domains where circularity effectively takes place. It brings together resource supply, technical and biological cycles, activities linked to the tourism experience, essential support services, and their continuous interaction with society and the environment. As such, it concentrates both many of the key challenges facing the Balearic Islands and a substantial share of their future solutions.

04

A regional development commitment

This is our commitment: to move towards a circular tourism system. Not merely as a sectoral shift, but as a vector for regional development. Orienting the tourism system towards circularity helps activate competitiveness levers such as efficiency, innovation and sustainability, strengthen relationships along the tourism value chain, and generate long-term economic, social and environmental value.

If in the Balearic Islands, the circular economy constitutes a pathway to progress. And the transition towards a circular tourism system is its strategic expression on the ground: not as a sectoral response, but as a broad regional development commitment
